
1. MMRCL Gets Nod To Cut Trees At Aarey
Even as a large number of people protested outside the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) office on Friday against felling of 2,646 trees at Aarey colony for Metro III car shed, the Tree Authority gave its permission to the MMRCL to go ahead with the removal.
Mumbai has been seeing large scale protests since the Tree Authority of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided on August 29 to allow cutting of 2,185 trees and transplantation of 461 trees.

2. Mumbai Metro-3: Part Of Emergency Exit Collapses, 1 Worker Dead, One Injured
A worker died late Friday and another was injured when a portion of the emergency exit of the metro line-3 collapsed while they were working near it. The incident took place at a construction site on the line between Powai and Aarey. The Metro line-3 will connect Colaba to Bandra and SEEPZ.

3. BEST Comfort Coming Soon? City May Get 1K AC Mini, Midi Buses
Passengers using Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses may soon travel in air-conditioned comfort. This BEST administration has tabled a proposal for approval that includes procuring an additional 1,000 air-conditioned (AC) mini and midi-sized buses on wet lease for a period of eight years. The BEST committee will discuss the proposal on Sunday.

4. Taxi Driver Arrested For ‘Harassing, Blocking’ Supriya Sule At Dadar Rail Station
A taxi driver was arrested by the Railway Police for allegedly harassing NCP leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule at Dadar railway station.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, the NCP leader accused driver, Kuljit Singh Malhotra, of blocking her way and “shamelessly” posing for a photograph. “Witnessed a strange experience at Dadar Station. A man by the name of Kuljit Singh Malhotra entered the train and was touting for Taxi service. Despite a refusal twice he blocked my path, harassed me and shamelessly even posed for the photo,” Sule tweeted.

5. Ganeshotsav: Mumbai Records Highest Noise Level In 4 Years
Noise levels from processions on ‘Anant Chaturdashi’, the eleventh and final day of Ganeshotsav, were the highest in the past four years in Mumbai, an anti-noise campaigner said on Friday.
Awaaz Foundation that recorded noise levels on Thursday night said the highest noise level, 121.3 decibels (dB) - as loud as a jet plane during takeoff (120 dB), was recorded near Royal Opera House junction on Charni Road just before midnight.
